There’s typically an expiration date printed on the check, but in most cases, personal or business checks are usually valid for 180 days or six months. It’s worth cashing a check as soon as you can after receiving it, just in case the account number changes or the sender spends the money on something else.
If you lose a check, you need to cancel it as soon as possible. Contact the person who issued the check to stop the payment so no one else can cash it. If you have written a check that you suspect has been lost or stolen, you need to contact your bank to see whether it has been cashed. If it hasn’t you should request them to stop payment.
The decision on whether you need to use a check or money order depends on what you’re trying to do and your financial circumstances. Some people may be hesitant to accept a personal check because the funds aren’t guaranteed. For things like bills, rent, or services, a money order may be the preferred choice.

Prepaid Card FAQs
A prepaid debit card is a useful way to pay for things without needing to carry cash around. It’s not like a credit card – you are using money that you already have. Bank accounts aren’t necessary and having a poor credit history shouldn’t prevent you from having one.
There are several ways to load money onto your reloadable prepaid card. You can buy and reload some prepaid debit cards online or go into your nearest Money Services Desk to get a reloadable Prepaid Card.
There is normally a small fee to activate and reload a Prepaid Card. Look out for promotions and offers to save money.
Most Prepaid Cards are accepted anywhere in the US that accepts debit cards. You can use them online and in stores, though fees may apply.
The right reloadable Prepaid Card for you depends on your priorities and how you want to use it.

At Money Services, we keep your money transfers safe and ensure you can send and receive funds securely. We will always ask for ID whenever someone sends or collects money, whether by check, money order or online transfer. So should any fraudulent activity occur, we have a record of that transaction.
