Harris Teeter Home Town Products

Home Town is Harris Teeter’s way of showing our neighborly side. It’s much more than a smile and courteous service though. It’s a way of doing business. One that benefits the local economy, local institutions and local people. It’s a state of mind.

Founders

HT Home Town

Ever since W.T. Harris and W.L. Teeter got together, the focus has been on people: as customers and as neighbors. As Harris Teeter grew as a business, the philosophy of community support also grew, each new store bringing a new neighborhood to serve as a grocer and as a community member. This spirit has shown up in everything from local sports, to education, to regionally sourced products, to jobs, to food banks, to disaster relief, to helping U.S. service men and women…the list goes on and on. When it comes to being a good neighbor, the possibilities are limitless.

Blue Rhino

Blue Rhino

Inspired by a photo safari in South Africa, Blue Rhino® came to life. A national distribution network was constructed, retailer partnerships were established, and a new brand was born. Lance

Lance

Lance® was born out of a true entrepreneurial spirit when, in 1913, founder Philip L. Lance got stuck with 500 pounds of raw peanuts. Instead of backing out of his deal, the Charlotte, NC food broker had a revelation: roast and sell the nuts for a nickel a bag. The freshly roasted peanuts were an immediate success and Philip Lance was inspired to expand his line to include peanut butter. After that he was on his way. Today, that sort of innovative passion is alive and well with Lance® employees, such as those who embarked on an initiative to achieve working towards zero-waste-to-landfill. That’s the sort of Home Town spirit we love to see!

Arnold & Sara Lee

It all started back in 1940, when Dean and Betty Arnold opened their own bakery out of a tiny house in Stamford, CT. Back then, you couldn’t find the premium bread that we love today. By starting small, the couple was able to give each brick-oven-baked loaf the attention it deserved. Today, though Dean and Betty no longer make the bread themselves, Arnold® bakes its loaves in local bakeries around the country, including one in Gastonia, NC. We are still committed to bringing you bread you can believe in—so you can live your life and love your loaf.

In 1949, bakery entrepreneur Charlie Lubin chose to name his new line of cheesecakes and bakery business after his 8-year-old daughter, Sara Lee. The sweet bakery products coming out of the Kitchens of Sara Lee soon became so popular that the bakery was purchased in 1956, and in 1985 was eventually renamed the Sara Lee Corporation. Over the decades, Sara Lee’s products have delighted millions around the world, becoming one of the best-loved American brands. In 2001, we expanded beyond sweet baked goods into fresh bread products with the acquisition of The EarthGrains Company.

Duke's

Duke's

Duke’s It’s Got Twang! It was at Camp Sevier in 1917 that the Duke’s Mayonnaise legacy began. Eugenia Duke of Greenville, SC, made sandwiches in her home kitchen to sell to army canteens during WWI. Eugenia’s sandwiches (and the mayo that gave them their special flavor) were so unforgettably delicious that years after they’d left the camp, soldiers wrote to Eugenia begging for her sandwich recipes and jars of her delectable spread. She began bottling it as a product on its own in 1923.

Over the past 100 years, Duke’s has continued to cultivate and celebrate its commitment to family recipes and bold, southern flavors.

In addition to the flagship mayonnaise, which is still made according to Eugenia’s original recipe in Greenville, SC, Duke’s offers light, olive oil, and flavored mayonnaise, tartar sauce, sandwich relish and regionally-inspired Duke’s Southern Sauces, mustards, and dressings.

Eggland's Best

In 1992, we set out to create a better egg. We understood that to create a better egg, it would have to be better from the start, so we formulated our own unique patented feed for all of our hens: a wholesome, all-vegetarian diet. This nutritionally superior diet means Eggland’s Best hens lay naturally superior eggs: classic, organic, or cage-free. The EB stamp on the shell assures a nutritionally superior egg with farm-fresh taste. That’s why Eggland’s Best are the country’s #1 egg.

Horizon Organic

More than 20 years ago, our founders helped pioneer the organic dairy movement and became the first company to supply organic milk nationwide. We realized early on the responsibility that comes with producing food for America’s families, and our commitment to the organic movement and values like health, community and environmental stewardship has never wavered. Of course, we’ve grown up over the years, but some things haven’t changed a bit. We began with a handful of organic family farms, and family farms are still the heart of Horizon.

Jimmy Dean

In 1969, Jimmy Dean founded the Jimmy Dean Sausage Company. He was so committed to quality that he couldn’t help but tell you about it. He often described himself as the biggest morning person who ever walked the Earth (in cowboy boots, at least). His most famous quote of all was, “You can’t change the direction of the wind. But you can adjust your sails to always reach your destination.” Words to live by. Especially when you add a pan full of Jimmy Dean sausage.

Mt. Olive

The sense of civic enterprise at its founding has remained part of Mt. Olive’s culture for over nine decades. Mt. Olive was among the first in the nation, back in 1943, to implement a profit sharing plan. That plan is still in place today. Mt. Olive started a tuition reimbursement program in the 1950s, paying for employees to improve their education and training. When hard economic times hit the Town of Mount Olive in the early 1970s, the company paid its taxes in advance to help the town’s cash flow. In 2016, the company made just over $770,000 in financial and product contributions to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina, the University of Mount Olive and hundreds of community, educational, and nonprofit organizations throughout the region.

Seal The Seasons

Patrick Mateer met many struggling farmers while working at his local farmers market during his college years at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Patrick also noticed an uptick in the demand for local food by consumers, who could only access it a couple weeks out of the year when a crop was in season. Patrick founded Seal the Seasons in 2014 to connect the dots –making local frozen produce available year-round, while also helping provide small family farms with a reliable income stream year after year. We work with family farmers on a state-by-state basis to freeze their produce in season and sell it in local grocery stores 365 days a year. We are on a mission to create a more localized food system and make local available in every aisle of the grocery store year-round.

Sticky Fingers

Sticky Fingers was founded in 1992 by three lifelong friends. The first restaurant opened in Mt. Pleasant, SC to rave reviews, with the sauce becoming an instant Southern sensation. Nearly 30 years later they are still creating authentic Memphis-style barbecue sauce. "At Sticky Fingers, we believe food is love, and we love sharing it with you". They bottled-up that finger-licking good sauce and it's available at your local Harris Teeter.

Sunshine Beverages

Sunshine Beverages is a fast-growing beverage company born and based in Winston-Salem, NC. We created better-for-you energy drinks and sparkling waters after identifying a gap in the market for a healthier, non-extreme energy drink. Sunshine rehydrates, replenishes, and reenergizes with electrolytes, vitamins, no artificial flavors and just the right amount of natural caffeine (no more than a cup of coffee). Sunshine is one of the only energy beverages in the market to meet the FDA’s generally recognized as safe (GRAS) caffeine level for a carbonated beverage (71 mg. per 12 oz.). We want everyone to feel their best and it’s no secret, Sunshine can do just that!

Texas Pete

Texas Pete's actually from Winston-Salem, NC! When the Garner family was struggling to keep up with seven children during the Great Depression, the second oldest son purchased a restaurant instead of going to college. While the restaurant didn’t survive, the sauce they made there did. The new company began to support the entire family and turn things around. More than 85 years later, members of the third and fourth generations are running the company today. The current factory, built in 1942 and added onto too many times to count, sits on the original Garner family home site in northwest Winston-Salem.

Today, we are still a family managed business, almost 100 years after Bill & Salie made the first batch of potato chips in their kitchen in Hanover PA. Each day we set out to honor our century of heritage and deliver the world-class innovation & products consumers will love for generations.

Dr. King’s

Dr. King’s Farms™ officially began in 1985 as King’s Farm, a multi-generational, family-run farm that raised bison in western Pennsylvania. The name then transitioned to Carolina Bison Farm, with Dr. Frank King’s move to Asheville and the purchase of farmland in Leicester, North Carolina, where he carried on his family’s mission.

On a mission to improve the health of his patients using natural methods, Dr. King began prescribing bison meat with astonishing results. He was convinced that connecting to the diet of ancient man was an important key to health.

SAN-J

In 1804 Mie, Japan, the Sato family boldly left their shipping business to start a Tamari soy sauce company that thrives there to this day. Family tradition, Japanese cuisine philosophy, coupled with the inspiration from the hippie generation in the U.S., the family decided to introduce America to the flavor of Japanese Tamari. First importing Tamari to Natural and Asian grocers in the U.S. the business grew so that in 1987 the first U.S. San-J facility opened in Henrico, VA. Boldly moving towards the future again in a new country, San-J continues to embrace traditions and honors the memory of their origin.

The Carolina Nut Co.

In 1949, Larry Monahan began to sell roasted nuts to passing tourists from his family owned restaurant in Virginia. That's how the beloved Peanut Roaster brand was born.

The peanut business quickly outgrew the restaurant. In 1985, a peanut processing facility was opened in Cary, NC. A bit over 10 years later, in 1997, a new production and distribution facility in Henderson, NC was opened as business outgrew the current facility. Using the same recipe as in 1949, and some innovative flavored peanut recipes, business grew quickly. The Peanut Roaster surpassed others in the industry by roasting and packaging peanuts daily, which created a reputation for quality and freshness, and by providing patrons with deliciously different flavored peanuts.

True Made Foods

Ketchup was ruining dinner. Our founder knew ketchup has more sugar than ice cream, but his kids poured it all over their food anyway. So, he decided to make his own. Abe went back to how his mom and grandma cooked and sweetened his ketchup with nothing but flavorful fruits and veggies. Even the pickiest eater was asking for more. He then partnered with legendary Pitmaster Ed Mitchell to craft high flavor, low sugar barbecue sauces. Together, they’ve returned American barbecue to its real food roots. With an insatiable appetite to bring back delicious, traditional, and healthy ingredients to the table, True Made Foods is revolutionizing condiments for good.

Craft Ginger Ale

Our Craft Ginger Ale company started pretty simply back in 2017. We were tired of drinking ginger ale loaded with artificial sugars. We already ran a great craft brewery, ginger ale was just our own personal, delicious side-project. Fast forward to today, an accidental startup is making arguably the best natural ginger ale in the world! We are still a small, family-owned business located in Charlotte, NC. Our Craft Ginger Ale is now available in cans at your local Harris Teeter.
