Fitness and Sleep: Family
FITNESS
Unfortunately, our children have become more sedentary. They are not running around and playing as much as in the past, and many schools have dropped PE. Adults seem to have difficulty making time for exercise, even though it’s clear that exercise can be good for us at any age. Make a conscious effort to get active with your children. Take regular bike rides together, go hiking, create silly dances, anything to stay physically fit as a family. Visit harristeeter.com to download our step-tracker and start the yourwellness for families walking program.

SLEEP
Children under 13 years of age who don’t get between 9 -11 hours of sleep a night have a much higher incidence of obesity, may have difficulty concentrating in school, and can become irritable. Adults who don’t regularly get the minimum recommended 7 hours of sleep a night are at increased risk of chronic health issues. Have a regularly set bedtime each evening to ensure you and your children get an adequate, restorative night’s sleep.
