What is Harris Teeter’s giving program guidelines?
Harris Teeter believes in getting involved in our communities. While we strive to help as many organizations and the people they serve as possible, we can’t meet everyone’s needs so we have focused our giving into three main areas:
Eliminating Hunger
Educating Children
Serving a Specific Community Needs

How can I request a contribution?
For generations, Harris Teeter has made financial contributions to organizations to create a better quality of life in the neighborhoods we serve. Each year, our Corporate Contributions Committee reviews hundreds of requests and directs donation to make a positive impact for community groups.

Remember that our focus is targeted to eliminating hunger, educating children and meeting community needs.

Does your organization have the same vision?

If so, please plan ahead. Submit your request at least 8 weeks prior to the date you need to confirm your sponsors. Your request should be submitted on your organizations letterhead, including the purpose of your request; what you would like Harris Teeter to donate (cash, product, gift cards); the date you need the contribution; and a copy of your 501 © (3) status.

Proposals exceeding $5,000 are reviewed annually and need to reach us by Aug 1 in order to be considered for the upcoming fiscal year.

We prefer to give directly to an organization and a specific project rather than fundraising efforts such as golf tournaments, dinners or advertising. We’re sorry, but we can’t contribute to individuals, trips, tours or student exchange programs; fund drives conducted by religious organizations; or scholarship funds outside of Harris Teeter’s own programs.

Please realize that we receive hundreds of requests a month. If you followed the steps above there is no need to follow up on your application. You will receive a letter within 6 weeks of your request submission with our decision.

What is Harris Teeter’s Solicitation Policy?
Over the year’s, Harris Teeter has allowed non-profit organizations to solicit funds in front of stores in many neighborhoods through out the south east. The funds collected help to improve our communities and provide additional funding for special projects with groups such as the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and the Salvation Army.

How do I schedule a solicitation event?
If you are interested in scheduling a solicitation event at Harris Teeter, please follow these easy steps:

1. Write your request on your organization’s letterhead, including the purpose of your request; preferred store location, date and time, as well as a copy of your 501 ©(3) status.
2. Send written requests to Harris Teeter’s Corporate Communication Department with a minimum of four weeks lead time to:

3. Harris Teeter limits outside solicitations to two events, per store, per month.
4. Harris Teeter will not be able to accommodate solicitation requests from September through December, or mid February through mid March. During these months Harris Teeter will be holding point of purchase contribution programs at its registers.
5. Solicitation event requests are reviewed on a monthly basis. Please plan ahead and give as much advanced notice as possible.

*Note: Solicitation is not allowed in our Northern Virginia, Charlottesville, VA area, Maryland, Delaware, and DC markets or at our Distribution Centers. It is important to remember that a wide variety of organizations request to solicit outside of our stores. To ensure that we help as many organizations as possible, each non-profit agency is allowed to solicit two times a year, per store.
