Trex Recycling Program Results

  The Bags to Benches program launched on March 10th with a 30-day campaign for schools throughout the seven states Harris Teeter serves. Over 180 schools collected plastic bags and delivered them to their local Harris Teeter to be recycled. In total 1.1 million bags were collected from local schools and sent to Trex for recycling. Harris Teeter and Trex understand that these bags may have otherwise ended up as litter or in the landfill where they would have stayed for over 500 years!
The Bags to Benches program was designed to bring awareness and encourage students to recycle at school and at home. The top performing schools in each of Harris Teeter's three regions were awarded a Trex Bench (made of 50% recycled plastic and 50% recycled wood) and $500 to be used for any outdoor school improvements or other projects that may need financial assistance.
