Steel Cut Oats?

Steel cut oats...
The words bring up images of ninjas working around the farm...
So what are steel cut oats, and why are they becoming such a popular food choice?
Steel cut oats, or Irish oats, are minimally processed - the intact oats (also called groats) are cut only a few times (by steel blades!) before they end up on our shelves. Cutting the oats lessens the cooking time necessary for their preparation, though they still take a little longer than other oats products because they are minimally processed.
They're also really good tasting. Add a little cinnamon, fruit or nuts and you've got a tasty and nutritious breakfast or snack.
Plus, steel cut oats are a low glycemic index food (they don't raise your blood sugar significantly in rapid fashion) and they can help lower high cholesterlo because of their high fiber content.
There are plenty of fast-cooking oat products on the market but they are typically not as healthy for you as good,old-fashioned steel cut oats. Why? They are usually highly processed and, as a result, can contribute to short-term increases in blood sugar.
So Go Ninja! And try some steel cut oats.
