Dr Russ Blog - Really Giving Thanks
Really Giving Thanks
Created on 11/26/2013
Thanksgiving is here! And most of us have a great deal to be thankful for, including:
- friends (including the furry kinds)
- meaningful work
Being mindful to pause in order to express gratitude for all that we have is important in many ways, not the least of which is that doing so has been shown to have physical as well as emotional health benefits.
Perhaps the best way to express gratitude is action - reach out to someone who could use a little company, donate your time to a worthy cause, or contribute in some way to ensure that no one goes hungry this holiday season.
Even in the midst of difficult times we can find reason to be grateful.
And we can find people whose circumstances are worse than our own. Working to lighten their load serves both the recipient of kindness and its provider, and helps us all to be well.
Thanks Giving. What a good name for the holiday.
