Prunes for Weight Loss - Really?
Created on 6/6/2014
If losing weight in a reasonable manner were easy there wouldn't be a gazillion dollar weight loss industry, right?
So any time there's new evidence of a relatively easy way to help promote healthy weight loss it seems worthy of sharing. Thus, the word of the day is (cue drum roll)...
When most people think of prunes (essentially a type of dried plum) they aren't necessarily smiling.
But maybe we should, especially when eating prunes.
After all, prunes taste good and can be very helpful in relieving constipation - in fact, more helpful than many presacription aids.
Now consider that data out of the University of Liverpool shows that a small amount of prunes each day may contribute towards healthy weight loss, and suddenly prunes are really yummy AND maybe really helpful.
Over a 12-week period the study participants who ate some prunes each day lost a little more weight and narrowed their belts slightly more than those who did not eat prunes. This may be due to the fiber in prunes and that prunes contribute towards a feeling of fullness when eaten.
The exact number of prunes one would need to eat is not yet agreed upon, but a small handful each day might keep "things moving" (lessen constipation), and maybe even contribute towards attaining a healthy weight if you are looking to shed a few pounds.
Prunes - who knew?
Ask your doctor if eating them regularly might be a good idea for you.
