Live Healthy, Live WAAAAAY Longer

Following fairly basic healthy lifestyle practices has previously been shown to increase both lifespan and years of good health. Now comes a study showing that by following 4 specific lifestyle habits we can significantly lessen our risk for heart disease and stroke, as well as increase our chances for a long and healthy life.
The study was published in the American Journal of Epidemiology, and the 4 lifestyle habits we should try to follow are:
- Don't smoke - if you do, find a good way to quit (another recent study showed that many smoking cessation techniques are successful!)
- Enjoy a satisfying and healthy diet (think the Mediterranean diet)
- Exercise regularly (while you can get health benefits from as little as 15 minutes of brisk walking each day, in this study the benefits were noted with 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercise per week)
- Maintain a healthy body weight - This doesn't even address appropriate stress management, adequate sleep, and more - even so, the findings are remarkable! Those who followed these specific lifestyle practices had an EIGHTY PERCENT LOWER RISK OF DEATH compared to those who followed none of the practices.
Some aspects of our future health we have little or no control over - but in fact we have control over most of what our future halth will be. You can, in some ways, choose to be healthy. For my part, I hope you will.
