Dr Russ Blog - Eating Well is NOT Harder than Doing Your Taxes
Eating Well is NOT Harder than Doing Your Taxes
Created on 5/25/2012
There is a lot of health information out there.
And a lot of health MISinformation.
And a lot of it has to do with eating a healthy diet.
And a lot of that information changes. Frequently.
Is it hard for you to make sense of all the information coming your way about eating healthfully? According to the results of s study performed by the IFIC Foundation (C:\Documents and Settings\ccon168\Desktop\2012 Food & Health Survey Consumer Attitudes toward Food Safety, Nutrition and Health.mht) most consumers are confused by the sheer volume of often contradictory dietary information available to them.
So much so that many feel it is easier to do their taxes than to figure out how best to eat for good health.
This is crazy.
First of all, most of us have a pretty good idea of what we should be eating and what we shouldn't eat very often, if at all.
Next, it's not that eating well is so hard, but that there are so many factors conspiring against us following a healthy diet, including an overwhelming amount of information on the topic.
In addition, marketers confuse the issue further by making unhealthy food options appear so desirable.
Lastly, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, choosing food to eat should be about good taste and enjoyment.
Yes, good health should be a big part of the decision-making process when it comes to our dietary plans, but not at the expense of the joy of food.
Part of the problem here comes from the perception that foods that are good for us simply don't taste good. Even I once thought this way until I had the opportunity to learn diffierntly starting in 1997.
The basics of a healthy diet really are fairly straightforward. And those basics are regularly laid out in understandable terms and in actionable detail in the brief articles, blog pieces and videos available on the Harris teeter yourwellness site.
The yourwellness team exists in order to help you make good decisions when it comes to feeding yourself and your family.
