Thanksgiving - the very word conjures a sense of gratitude. Yes, we can't wait for the food, the parties, the football (!) - but in the quiet spaces during this day, we will hopefully find time to reflect on our good fortune. Even in these difficult times, we are far more fortunate than so many in this world.
Today we give thanks. Today, of all days, we are grateful.
In Europe it is often said that people in America get sick so often because we refuse to "stop." Today is a good day to stop. Stop, and think of all the good things in your life, even if they seem to be few in number, for life holds endless possibilities for things to get better. And perhaps offer a word of thanks.
Thanks to those who love and care about us. Thanks to those who even now defend our freedom and protect us from harm. Thanks to those who toil while we enjoy a day off. Thanks for life.
Another way to offer gratitude is to reach out to those in need. The opportunities in this regard are numerous - visiting a neighbor who lives alone, calling a friend you've been meaning to contact, donating goods and services to the impoverished, volunteering. To reach out in these ways helps support community and our place in that community. And healing takes place in community.
The Harris Teeter yourwellness team and I wish you and yours a peaceful and healthy Thanksgiving holiday. And we thank you for the chance to share our passion for good health with you.
Happy Thanksgiving! Be well.
