Dr Russ Blog - Cruciferous Vegetables - Yum!
Cruciferous Vegetables - Yum!
Created on 9/21/2012
Cruciferous vegetables can be easily found on the shelves of your neighborhood Harris Teeter.
And you might consider looking for them more often - they are nutrient powerhouses, contain ample fiber, and appear to have cancer-fighting potential. Here's a list of cruciferous vegetables that should regularly grace your plate:
Broccoli
Cauliflower
Watercress
Kale
Turnips
Cabbage
Brussels sprouts
Make crucifeorus vegetables part of the "rainbow of vegetables and fruits" that you eat every day.
One word of caution for people with thyroid disease - cruciferous veggies contain compounds called goitrogens that can interfere with production of thyroid hormone - the good news?
Cooking pretty much does away with the goitrogens.
Still, it's a good idea to tell your doctor that you eat a lot of cruciferous vegetables if you have thyroid issues.
Veggies - they're good tasting, good for you, and some of them (like cruciferous vegetables) have added health benefits - so enjoy!
And be well.
