Hot flashes... Ugh!
Most every woman experiences hot flashes as part of peri-menopause. They can be bothersome - or worse.
Therapeutic options exist and many are helpful, but with persistent concerns about the safety of hormone therapy many women seek alternatives.
Acupuncture, some medicinal herbs, relaxation therapies, and a few prescription aids can all help, but a new study suggests that magnesium might also help. Don't however, use it if you have significant kidney problems.

Menopause - Hold the Hormones?

Results of the large Women's Health Initiative (WHI) study were first published in 2002 and showed that post-menopausal women taking combined hormone replacement therapy (estrogen and progesterone) were at increased risk for invasive breast cancer, as well as delayed diagnosis of breast cancer.
A new study further examines the initial WHI results and suggests that post-menopausal women on combined hormone replacement therapy also have a higher mortality rate.
If you're a post-menopausal woman, ask your doctor if you really need hormone therapy. There are other options.
