Harris Teeter believes in getting involved in the communities it serves. We focus our giving in three main areas: eliminating hunger, educating children and immediate community need.
 To build upon our commitment of being a charitable and sustainable company, we have developed partnerships with food agencies surrounding every store. These organizations visit our stores daily to collect day old bakery products. The donated items are then distributed to individuals struggling to make ends meet in that store's community.
Harris Teeter also operates a reclaim center in Charlotte, NC. This warehouse receives any non-perishable, un-saleable product and donates the safe, consumable products to our food partners throughout all of our marketing areas. It is a simple process, when the reclaim center has collected 44 pallets of product they contact the next food bank on the list. When the food bank arrives at the warehouse they know they will receive a full truck load of food. The Harris Teeter reclaim center donates approximately 2.5 million dollars of food to our partners throughout the year.
Harris Teeter is committed to the communities where its customers and associates live and work. By developing relationship with non-profit organizations we are not only fighting hunger, we are also limiting product waste and reducing landfill space. During its 2006 fiscal year Harris Teeter was able to donate over $4.8 million throughout the marketing areas it serves.
