Companies Partner with Operation Homefront, Provide Holiday Meals and Gift Cards to Military Families

WHAT:  Harris Teeter and MillerCoors will donate holiday dinners to 400 military families served by Operation Homefront (OH).  The donation is in its fourth year and serves as an example of MillerCoors ongoing commitment to Operation Homefront; Harris Teeter is the retail partner who will provide the meals. For the first time, Murphy-Goode is joining Harris Teeter and MillerCoors in this effort by donating gift cards to Operation Homefront.  The gift cards will be distributed to military families to buy food for a holiday meal.

This donation at the Washington D.C. National Guard Armory is just one of the ways Harris Teeter, MillerCoors and Murphy-Goode show their commitment to the military.   MillerCoors began its partnership with Operation Homefront in 2009 through its Miller Lite brand and the Thanksgiving meal distribution is just part of the beer company’s overall efforts to help service members throughout the year.  In September, Murphy-Goode Winery announced a holiday partnership with Operation HomeFront, and Harris Teeter also maintains a strong relationship with service members and their families through its support of USO as well as Believe in Heroes, a Wounded Warrior Project® initiative.

Operation Homefront provides emergency financial and other assistance to the families of our service members and wounded warriors.  OH also assists military families during difficult financial times by providing food assistance in the form of food boxes and grocery gift cards.  In 2012, Operation Homefront met nearly 152,000 needs for military families including active duty, Guard and Reserve members from all branches of service.

"Operation Homefront receives requests for food assistance all year long,” said Vivian Dietrich, Executive Director, Operation Homefront DC Metro field office.  “In fact, service members and their families request assistance to buy groceries more than any other need. This Thanksgiving, Operation Homefront welcomes the opportunity to partner with Harris Teeter to provide turkeys so families in the DC Metro area, where food costs are especially high, will enjoy a traditional holiday dinner."
