Harris Teeter Donates Lottery Incentive to Local Together in Education Schools

Three Local Schools Attend May 24 Event to Receive Donation

Charlotte, N.C. – Today, Harris Teeter Store Manager Bruce Woodle presented $3,000 to local schools to support their commitment to educational programs.  The check presentation, which took place at the Harris Teeter located at North Hills East in Raleigh, N.C., was made possible by the North Carolina Education Lottery. Brooks Museums Magnet Elementary School PTA, Millbrook High School and St. David’s School each received $1,000.

Harris Teeter has donated to schools $19,000 in North Carolina Education Lottery incentive payments since establishing the incentive donation program in December 2011. The North Carolina Education Lottery offers incentive payments to retailers for selling winning tickets for the Carolina Cash 5 jackpot, and Harris Teeter donates incentive payments over $1,000 back to Together in Education schools.

Harris Teeter supports schools through its Together in Education program, and the North Carolina Education Lottery also raises funds for education.  Since February 1998, Harris Teeter has donated over $19 million to the Together in Education schools in District of Columbia and the eight southeastern states in which it operates stores.  Since March 2006, the N.C. Education Lottery has raised more than $2.8 billion for education programs in the state.

“As educators, our dream is to create learning experiences that will produce citizens ready and equipped for the 21st century, while enjoying each and every day in our classroom,” said Felecia Locklear, principal for Brooks Museums Magnet Elementary School.

“St. David’s School would like to thank Harris Teeter for its generous donation as part of its Together in Education program,” said Michael Noto, lower school principal for St. David’s School. “We are proud to partner with such an outstanding company and are blessed to have the support of the Harris Teeter at North Hills in our community.”

"Millbrook High School is honored and extremely appreciative to receive this donation from Harris Teeter,” said Dana King, principal for Millbrook High School. “As a school with many technology needs, we will be using these funds to increase resources for our classroom teachers.  Specifically, this will assist us in purchasing laptop computers for a classroom lab we are putting together.  We would like to thank Harris Teeter for its dedication in supporting education and Millbrook High School."

“We wouldn’t be so successful raising money for education without the help of great retail partners like Harris Teeter,” said Alice Garland, executive director of the N.C. Education Lottery. “We applaud Harris Teeter for sharing its incentive payment with these three Wake County schools. Every dollar we can raise with the lottery and every dollar Harris Teeter contributes through its Together in Education program can make a difference for students in our state.”
