Harris Teeter, Washington Nationals Team Up to Fight Hunger

Stop-By Participating Harris Teeter Locations and Donate Non-Perishable Items to the Local Food Bank

Charlotte, N.C. – In partnership with the Washington Nationals, Harris Teeter is hosting a food drive now through July 9, 2012 to support its local food bank partners.

Harris Teeter, a strong advocate for hunger relief, is hosting the collection to help raise hunger awareness.  Donations made at Harris Teeter stores will benefit both Capital Area Food Bank and Loudoun Interfaith Relief; posters placed on the collection bins in each store will announce the beneficiary.

In addition to donating food at Harris Teeter locations, Nationals fans may bring non-perishable food items to Nationals Park on July 7 and July 8 when the team faces the Colorado Rockies.  Volunteers will collect donations outside Center Field Gate from the time gates open through the fourth inning.  Fans who donate two non-perishable food items at the ballpark will receive two tickets to one of three future games, while supplies last.

The Capital Area Food Bank, founded in 1980, distributes nearly 30 million pounds of food to more than 478,000 people annually through its network of partner agencies in the Washington metro region.

Loudoun Interfaith Relief provides emergency food assistance to Loudoun County residents-in-need. The organization served more than 75,000 individuals during its fiscal year ending June 30, 2011.  The food pantry was established in 1991 and relies on a trained staff and volunteers to design healthy meals for its clients.

Please join the Washington Nationals and Harris Teeter in the fight against hunger; stop by Harris Teeter to make a product donation in the bins located in the lobby.
