Harris Teeter, FMI and CASA Remind Parents to Make Family Dinners Priority
Regular Family Dinners Promote Healthy Behavior
Charlotte, N.C., Sept. 22, 2011- Harris Teeter, along with Food Marketing Institute (FMI) Foundation and The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA), is promoting Family Day – A Day to Eat Dinner with Your ChildrenTM which will occur Monday, Sept. 26. Family Day, celebrated every year in September, is a national movement promoting regular family dinners at home as a way to decrease youth substance abuse.
Family Day reminds parents that consistent engagement and increased parent-child communication can make a difference in a child’s life. Through the initiative, CASA encourages families to eat dinner together at least five times per week. The program was launched in 2001 after a series of CASA research reports showed the more often children ate dinner with their families, the less likely they were to smoke, drink or use illegal drugs.
