Produce Suppliers and Retailers Expand Partnership During National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Pink Ribbon Produce In-Store Program Launches at Harris Teeter Oct. 2

Roseville, Calif., Oct. 1, 2011 — Pink Ribbon Produce, a unique retail program committed to the fight against breast cancer and raising breast cancer awareness, will return this October for its sixth year at all Harris Teeter stores. Since 2006, Harris Teeter's shoppers have raised more than $136,000 by purchasing products from vendors participating in the initiative, helping to support important programs funded by local Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Affiliates.

 “Our shoppers have told us how important health and wellness is to their families," said Catherine Reuhl, communication specialist serving Harris Teeter. "We launched our yourwellness initiative with Dr. Russell Greenfield to give our customers the tools they wanted to make informed purchasing decisions. Our yourwellness program has evolved over the years, but the yourwellness message remains consistent. Our participation in and support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and Pink Ribbon Produce is still an important part of our programming - it is important to our shoppers, and it is important to our company."

Through various fundraising activities, including Pink Ribbon Produce and  the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® series, Komen has invested more than $1.9 billion in research and lifesaving community programs.

Pink Ribbon Produce has proven successful at linking retailers including Harris Teeter and produce suppliers including Apio, Dole and Mission Produce, with Komen and the thousands of community members who want to give back and support efforts to find cures for breast cancer. The money raised goes to local Komen Affiliates. Stores will direct shoppers to the participating produce suppliers with a Pink Ribbon Produce program icon on posters and point-of-sale signs at the product.
