Charlotte, NC - Harris Teeter puts its customers and community first and is kicking-off a disaster relief collection event hosted by The Salvation Army and The Green Chair Project by donating over $45,000 in product that will be given to those affected by the tornadoes in North Carolina.

The Green Chair Project is hosting a community-wide collection drive on April 30, 2011 at its new location on Capital Boulevard.  To help raise awareness for the event, on April 29, Harris Teeter is delivering a tractor-trailer full of product to the nonprofit organization’s warehouse.  The donated items include yourbaby Diapers, yourhome Paper Towels, Harris Teeter Facial Tissue, yourhome Toilet Paper, yourhome Designer Plates, and Napkins; and Harris Teeter Water.  One of the company’s generous vendors is also donating children SOAPER® soap filled sponges and Healing Faery Bandage Boxes for a total donation valued at over $45,000.

Harris Teeter is also hosting a donation card campaign in its Raleigh area stores to benefit the American Red Cross disaster relief fund.  The last day to donate during the donation card campaign is April 30, 2011, and the dollars raised will enable the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, emotional support and other assistance to community members in need.  On Sunday, April 17, the company also began distributing 4,800 bags of FREE ice from its Southpark Village Harris Teeter store to community members without power.

Harris Teeter will continue to give customers the opportunity to donate to organizations that make a difference in the lives of their friends, colleagues and communities and thanks its media partner ABC-11 for helping raise awareness for the Disaster Relief Donation Card campaign.
