What: Harris Teeter Provides FREE Thanksgiving Dinners to 4,000 Individuals in Need

Harris Teeter, with the help of Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina, is distributing 1,000 family style Thanksgiving dinner bags to community members in need this holiday season. Each bag contains enough product to feed a family of four and, on Tuesday, November 17, the company invites reporters to attend the bag stuffing event at Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina,.
Each Thanksgiving bag will include cranberry sauce, corn, green beans, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, a 2 liter soft drink, pie, rolls and ham, enough to feed a family of four. Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina will identify and distribute the Thanksgiving bags to emergency pantries throughout its region starting November 17, 2010.
“There are now 545,000 individuals at risk of hunger in the 34 counties served by our organization, a 13 percent increase over last year,” said Peter Werbicki, President and CEO of the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. “We are grateful for Harris Teeter’s continued support at a time when unemployment rates have climbed into double digits in 14 of the 34 counties served by Food Bank. This includes 11 counties classified in the highest tier of economic distress. The needs in our service area are greater than ever.”
