Harris Teeter Food Bank Golf Outing Raises $210,000
Food banks will have help stocking their shelves for the summer months
Charlotte, NC – Harris Teeter is passionate about giving back to the community and has dedicated itself to combatting hunger. The company hosts a variety of events throughout the year to raise both awareness and money for food banks and on Monday, May 3, 2010 hosted its annual Food Bank Golf Tournament in Charlotte, NC.
Thanks to the generous participation of over 200 golfers, Harris Teeter raised $210,000 during the tournament. The money will be distributed to food agencies across the eight states in which the company is located and will help food agencies working on behalf of the hungry everyday.
"Harris Teeter knows that a grocery store nourishes a community in many ways," said Fred Morganthall, President of Harris Teeter. "Food banks are having a hard time keeping their shelves full right now and it is our responsibility to lend a hand," added Morganthall.
Harris Teeter would like to thank all involved in its annual golf tournament. It is important to remember that many food banks receive the majority of their donations during the winter month; however, people are in need all year long. Harris Teeter understands that it is difficult for food banks to stretch those donations an entire year and is committed to helping the hunger insecure.
Food Banks receiving donations will include Lowcountry Food Bank, Capital Area Food Bank, Loudoun Interfaith Relief, Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC, Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle TN, Greensboro Urban Ministries, Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, Loaves & Fishes, Food Bank of Southeastern VA, MANNA Food Bank, and DC Central Kitchen.
