Harris Teeter Expands In-Store Recycling Program

Harris Teeter making strides in environmental and sustainability practices

Charlotte, NC – Harris Teeter is expanding its in-store recycling program and wants our customers to join us.

Starting in November in all Harris Teeter locations in North Carolina, you will start seeing recycling bins in the lobby of each store designated for bottles and cans.  These bins are in addition to the plastic and paper bag recycling bins we currently have in the lobby of each Harris Teeter store.  Now, if a customer chooses to enjoy a bottled or canned beverage during a shopping trip, we encourage them to take advantage of our new in-store recycling program and recycle the item.

Did you know:

It takes just 5 recycled plastic bottles to produce the lining for a ski jacket
50% of all carpeting is made from recycled plastic bottles
It takes 95% less energy to make an aluminum can from an aluminum can that is being recycled

As always, as Harris Teeter continues to learn more about being a good environmental citizen, the company will continue to implement sound environmental practices into our day to day operations.  The new in-store recycling program is intended for items including drink containers, milk bottles from the coffee shop, pharmacy bulk bottles and deli containers.
