Harris Teeter Presents its 8th Annual Harvest Feast Dinner
Harris Teeter to Feed Thousands of Local Residents in Need
Charlotte, NC - On Friday, November 27th at 12pm, 400 Harris Teeter employees and volunteers from the community will join together at the Charlotte Convention Center to serve free holiday meals to residents in need. This is the eighth year Harris Teeter has hosted this event in Charlotte.
The event is not open to the general public. Charlotte-area residents-in-need have been identified and invited by organizations throughout Charlotte including Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, Loaves & Fishes, Department of Social Services, Salvation Army, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, Charlotte Housing Authority, Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation Department, neighborhood centers, religious organizations and many other groups throughout the city.
Harris Teeter will serve each person in attendance a free holiday meal; in total over 4,500 pounds of turkey, 1,560 pounds of ham, and over 900 pounds each of corn, green beans and mashed potatoes, to name a few. Any remaining perishable food items will be donated to Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina and distributed on its Community Food Rescue routes this holiday season. Entertainment is scheduled throughout the day for our guests to enjoy.
Harris Teeter is not able to hold dinners in all the communities it serves, however the company has initiated a food drive and card sales in all of its stores to ensure that food bank shelves are stocked this holiday season. Collection barrels were placed at each of our stores and $5 and $20 donation cards are being sold at Harris Teeter registers October 28 through December 1. Thanks for the support of our loyal shoppers and associates, we have raised over $150,000 to date.
Media is encouraged to attend the event on Friday, November 27. Please use the Charlotte Convention Center entrance on Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard.
Harris Teeter would also like to thank the Charlotte Convention Center, Charlotte Area Transit System, LYNX and our generous vendors for helping make the Harvest Feast Dinner possible.
