Harris Teeter and Milk-Bone® Give the Matthews Police Department Something to Bark About

Harris Teeter and Milk-Bone® are proud to announce the Matthews Police Department as this year’s 2nd recipient of the Milk-Bone® Canine Heroes program. Since the partnership was established nine years ago, Harris Teeter and Milk-Bone® have given a local police department money toward the purchase of a new police dog. The donation to the Matthews PD will be, however, the 2nd 2009 donation.

In mid-February, Captain Carla Thompson, Matthews PD, called Harris Teeter to speak about Canine Heroes. Nitro, a police dog in the Matthews PD Canine Unit, had been diagnosed with cancer and the department needed a new dog. After hearing her story, Harris Teeter and Milk-Bone® went into action and decided to make a second donation in 2009; Harris Teeter and Milk-Bone® offered the Matthews Police Department $5,000 toward the purchase of a new police dog.
