The Harris Teeter Spring Golf Outing raises $215,000 to Combat Hunger
Ensuring that food banks will have help stocking their shelves for the summer months.

Combating hunger has been a top priority for Harris Teeter since it opened its doors. On April 14 friends and colleagues united to help Harris Teeter make a difference in the communities it serves.  The tournament took place at Carmel Country Club in Charlotte, NC and the money raised will span across eight states.

As golfers poured in Monday morning they were excited to hear that their participation had helped raise $215,000 for area food banks.

"Harris Teeter knows that a grocery store nourishes a community in many ways," said Fred Morganthall, President of Harris Teeter. "Food banks work everyday to make a difference in the lives of those struggling to make ends meet and we are proud to be able to lend support to these organizations," added Morganthall.

Harris Teeter would like to thank all involved in its annual golf tournament. It is important to remember that people are in need all year long.  Many food banks receive the majority of their donations during the winter months.  Harris Teeter understands that it is difficult for food banks to stretch those donations through out an entire year. We are committed to being part of the solution, when it comes to ending hunger.

Food Banks receiving donations include: Lowcountry Food Bank, Capital Area Food Bank, Interfaith Relief, Second Harvest of Northwest NC, Second Harvest of Middle TN, Good Shepherd Ministries, Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC, Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, Second Harvest of Southeast VA, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, Loaves & Fishes, and MANNA Food Bank.
