Harris Teeter, Del Monte and MDA Partner with Canine Assistants to Provide a Service Dog for a Local Child Living with a Neuromuscular Disease
Children living with neuromuscular disease often times need assistance with activities of daily living. Things such as turning on and off a light switch or pushing open and closed doors require help or assistance. That is where a canine assistance dog can become a true hero to a child with MD.

Del Monte Foods, in association with Harris Teeter, has partnered with The Muscular Dystrophy Association and Canine Assistants to provide Seth Myers, 12 years old with Duchene Muscular Dystrophy, with his very own canine assistant. This means a new level of independence for Seth. He will not only have a companion that can assist him with his everyday tasks, but also a friend and playmate.
Seth enjoys swimming and spending time with his family and cousins. He plays the saxophone and has an interest in all types of music. Seth considers himself a “dog person” and spends a great deal of time with is cousin’s dog, playing and just hanging out. There is no doubt that he will greatly benefit from a service dog emotionally, socially and physically.
The check presentation will be made at the entrance of the Morrocroft Harris Teeter on Morrison Blvd, in Charlotte, NC on Thursday, March 6th at 10:30am. Representatives from Harris Teeter, Del Monte, MDA and Canine Assistants will be present, as well as Seth and his new “best friend”.
