The Willowdaile Harris Teeter will be donating a weeks worth of food to the Durham Rescue Mission a day after their pantry was damaged by a fire. At 10:00am on Tuesday, April 10th Ernie Mills, executive director for the non-profit organization will be stopping by the store to collect the donations.
A week’s worth of product for the Durham Rescue Mission includes items such as: cereal, canned fruit and vegetables, rice, beans, noodles, soups, canned tuna and salmon, cereal, jelly, pancake mix, grits, oatmeal and condiments.
Harris Teeter has a long history of supporting hunger related causes. Harris Teeter is a food and financial donor, contributing millions of pounds of food annually to hunger relief agencies throughout its marketing areas. Harris Teeter also sponsors several special events each year for the food agencies, including the Letter Carriers Food Drive, Mayflower Marathon, and the annual Harris Teeter Harvest Feast which has fed more than 16,000 individual in need in the triangle area over the past four years.
Last year the Durham Rescue Mission provided 168,147 meals to the hungry and homeless in our area and gave out 2,450 bags of groceries to needy families.
