Harris Teeter Initiates Project Pink & Pink Ribbon Produce
Harris Teeter will join together shoppers and suppliers to help raise Money for the Fight Against Breast Cancer.

The goal of Breast Cancer Awareness Month is to educate women about early breast cancer detection, diagnosis and treatment.  Many non-profit organizations work diligently throughout the year to help achieve this goal.  It is important for corporations to support their efforts through fundraising events.

This October Harris Teeter will be doing just that. During the month Harris Teeter will bring together its shoppers and suppliers to raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation and the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

From October 1 - 15 shoppers will be able to purchase pink ribbon pastry items with 5% of the retail price going to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.   Shoppers can satisfy their sweet tooth craving and raise money by purchasing pink layer cakes, pink cupcakes, and brownies. Pink ribbon stickers will be displayed on the package of the participating products.

Beginning October 18th, Harris Teeter will host Pink Ribbon Produce, a fundraiser and education event.  100% of the funds raised will be donated to local affiliates of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.  Eight produce suppliers will give generously when shoppers purchase their products between October 18 and November 15, 2006 in the Harris Teeter Farmers Market.

The participating products are Fresh Express® Packaged Salads, Farmer’s Market Potatoes from Nature’s Way, DOLE® Tropical Gold Pineapple, Cut Fruit from Country Fresh, Broccoli from Beachside Produce, Tomatoes from Euro Fresh Farms, Asparagus from Alpine Fresh and Mini Bananas from Chiquita® .  Signage will be placed throughout the Farmers Market including; shelf tags at each participating supplier’s display, a five-foot tall graphic column to let consumers know about the program, and a brochure.  This educational brochure will encourage shoppers to eat more fruit and vegetables to stay healthy, and will include information about early detection and screening methods for breast cancer.

All 152 Harris Teeter stores will participate in Project Pink and Pink Ribbon Produce.  According to the American Cancer Society, 212,920 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in 2006 among women in the United States.  Harris Teeter believes in giving back to the communities it serves and is proud to carry products from suppliers that have its same vision.
