Harris Teeter believes in giving back to the communities it serves. During its 2005 fiscal year over $4.5 million was donated to local charities.  Through the Sunkist “Take a Stand” program, on July 8, store associates will give their children an opportunity to learn that age doesn’t matter; they too can make a difference in their neighborhood.

In its third year, the Sunkist “Take a Stand” program empowers kids to make a difference in their local communities by providing them with free lemonade stands, while supplies last. The only requirement is the kids must be ages 7 – 12 and must pledge to raise money for a charity of their choice.  So far this year, pledges have been received from kids in every state throughout the country.  Children simply need to visit www.sunkist.com/takeastand and they can learn how to run a successful stand, choose a charity, pick a lemonade recipe and most importantly “Take a Stand.”

This year, the children of Harris Teeter associates  will “Take a Stand” and sell cups of their homemade, fresh-squeezed lemonade to help raise money for the United Way. Last year Harris Teeter raised over $1 million dollars for the United Way through associate and customer support.  All lemonade stand donations will be distributed by the United Way to the agencies located in the communities where the money was raised.

To ensure a successful event, Sunkist has provided each child with a Sunkist Summer Fun Lemonade Kit complete with a specially designed stand, hand juicer, peeler, faucet,  ‘how to’ brochure and recipe booklet.  The lemonade stands will be placed at the entrance of all 150 Harris Teeter stores located throughout the southeast.
