Harris Teeter held a my harris teeter jingle contest during the month of February. The contest gave shoppers an opportunity to show off their talent by singing the Harris Teeter jingle and see if they had what it takes to be a star.
A team of judges reviewed hundreds of entries before coming to a unanimous decision and announcing Nakita Wright as the winner. Nakita is a North Carolina native currently living in Smithfield with her husband Denver. With no formal voice training, she has become an amazing singer by showcasing her talent in church, school plays and for her friends and family since the age of four. Nakita was able to further develop her voice in college and launched her professional career at twenty two.
Her hard work and dedication has paid off. Nakita took home $10,000 in the my harris teeter jingle contest. Last month she record the jingle in a professional studio and is starring in a Harris Teeter commercial scheduled to air during the season finale of American Idol.
Nakita is using the majority of her winnings to pay off bills and take care of “life stuff”. “I am also donating $1,000 to my pastor and church to show my appreciation for the blessings God has given me and to thank the congregation for their support,” said Nakita Wright.
The my harris teeter jingle contest is an extension of the my harris teeter campaign developed by Harris Teeter associates Chuck Corbeil, group vice president of marketing and Steve Kent, director of advertising/creative, during the fall of 2005. The lyrics of the jingle reflect the ownership shoppers take in Harris Teeter; the way they refer to Harris Teeter stores as “my harris teeter,” and to associates as “my store manager,” “my pharmacists,” and so on.
“I want to thank Chuck and Steve for being troopers, they were really accommodating and sweet. We developed an amazing relationship,” added Wright.
Harris Teeter is proud to show off a new member of its family, Mrs. Nakita Wright, the my harris teeter jingle winner. As the song says “It’s the little things by far, it’s the people that make us who we are”. Be sure to tune in to the American Idol season finale to check out Nakita’s jingle rendition and sing along.
