Schools Ring in the New Year with Checks from Harris Teeter

Together in Education surpasses $7 Million donated to local schools!

Charlotte, NC – With the New Year right around the corner it is important that schools have the appropriate funding needed for students this spring.  Harris Teeter and its shoppers definitely understand the need and have proven once again that they can make a difference in children’s live.

Just this week, Harris Teeter mailed out 415 checks totaling $295,254 to local schools throughout six states.  Schools in 68 cities received checks bringing the current total given back to schools through Harris Teeter’s Together In Education (TIE) program to $7,018,311.

“Shoppers are definitely taking advantage and the children are benefiting,” says Harris Teeter President, Fred Morganthall.  “We have the highest number of customers in the program’s history linked to their local schools and the dollars donated continue to grow,” he adds.

Hopewell High School Band Boosters and PTSA remain at the top of the fundraising list with nearly 2,157 parents linked to their school.  Between the two organizations they were able to raise $18,526.93 in the first quarter.  How did they do it?  Hopewell High School located in Huntersville, NC secret is getting the word out early and having a very enthusiastic group of parents willing to make it work.

How does Together In Education work?  Customers sign up with their VIC card and when they purchase Harris Teeter brand products, a percentage of those purchase dollars goes to the schools of their choice.  Shoppers simply link the school of their choice to their VIC card each school year. Families can link up to five schools from preschool through 12th grade and Harris Teeter will evenly distribute the money across the different school accounts. It’s not too late.  Schools encourage everyone they know to get linked and help the children in their communities.

Harris Teeter is proud of our efforts to support area schools and encourages everyone to link their VIC card to their school and “be a part of the solution.”
