Harris Teeter Harvest Feast Campaign feeds over 12,000 individuals and helps stock food bank shelves just in time for the holiday  

Harris Teeter thanks customers for purchasing $55,477 worth of Harvest Feast Donation Cards and donating over 38,000 pounds of food to their local food banks.

 

Charlotte, NC - Combating hunger in our communities has been a top priority for Harris Teeter since it opened its doors.  This year, the company kicked off its Harvest Feast Campaign on October 30th with its annual Harvest Feast Dinner in Raleigh, serving a FREE traditional Thanksgiving meal to 3,400 people. 

 

Harris Teeter also partnered up with the Washington Redskins and Ryan Homes for a massive food distribution event on November 22nd at FedEx field.  The event provided over 4,000 individuals with a FREE Tyson ham and all the traditional fixins.  Harris Teeter concluded the Harvest Feast campaign on November 25th with a Harvest Feast Dinner in Charlotte, which fed an additional 4,248 individuals in need. 

 

To make sure that all Harris Teeter communities benefited from the Harvest Feast campaign, Harris Teeter held its annual four-week food drive in conjunction with the three dinner events.  This year Harris Teeter gave its shoppers a new donation option.  In addition to placing collection bins in the front of all 145 Harris Teeter stores, shoppers were also encouraged to purchase $5 and $10 donation cards at the register.  Over 38,000 pounds of food was collected through the donation bins and $55,477 worth of Harvest Feast Donation Cards were purchased.  These donation totals speak volumes about the generosity and kindness of Harris Teeter’s customers.  However, the success of the food drive and dinners would not have been possible without the participation of the food bank partners. These individuals are on the front lines fighting to end hunger in our community's everyday. 

 

"The Harvest Feast Campaign is community building at its best," said Fred Morganthall, President of Harris Teeter.  "Harris Teeter was able to recruit over 500 volunteers for our dinners and our customers support of the food drive was outstanding," added Morganthall.

 

Harris Teeter is working hard everyday to eliminate hunger among children in the community. Harris Teeter understands that a grocery store nourishes a community in many ways.  We want to be a part of the solution when it comes to ending hunger among children. Our Harvest Feast Food Drive will provide much needed nutrition for children and families throughout the Southeast.
