Winner of Harris Teeter's Rancher Recipe Roundup Rides off with a New Kitchen Makeover!

Connie Weis from Virginia Beach, VA takes top prize in recipe cook off !

Charlotte, NC - First, there were three. The heat was on in the Harris Teeter test kitchen as the top three finalists for the Rancher Recipe Roundup battled it out for a brand-new kitchen.

The finalists were flown in to Harris Teeter's headquarters in Charlotte to compete in a cook-off to decide the winner. From the shopping list of ingredients to just the right mixing bowl, with only two hours to create their masterpiece - no attention to detail was spared. Harris Teeter's Executive Chef, Phil Anderson helped the contestants throughout the day and graded each of the recipes on creative use of ingredients, presentation, and overall flavor.

And then there was one. Connie Weis took home the grand prize for her spicy recipe Mexican Ropa Vieja that transformed a chuck roast into a Mexican dish with flair. Al Lester from Wilmington, NC took came in second with his simple and elegant recipe for balsamic glazed steak and mushrooms. Teresa Roberson from Spencer, VA took home third place for her creative summer recipe for Ribeye steaks with cucumber and cantaloupe relish.

Weis will receive a kitchen makeover valued at $8,000.

As the second place winner, Lester will win a new refrigerator or freezer, a $2,000 value, and for third-place Roberson will take home a cookware set valued at $500.

All of our finalists succeeded in identifying great tasting recipes that were easy to prepare. All of our winners and additional selected recipes from the contest will be available in the weeks to come at Rancher kiosks found in the meat department of our stores.

Customers can find an array of tender, flavorful beef cuts affordable enough to serve every day at their local Harris Teeter. And today, our finalists proved that great tasting beef recipes don't have to be hard to make. "I'm so excited to win today! The first thing I want to buy to makeover my kitchen is new counter tops," said Weis.
