Winston-Salem Police Department Gets New Police Dog
Milk-Bone and Harris Teeter team up to help K-9 unit with new recruit!

Winston-Salem, NC – The Winston-Salem Police Department Canine Unit is pleased to announce a $5,000 donation from Milk-Bone in partnership with Harris Teeter for the purchase of a new police dog. As part of an on-going effort to support local law enforcement and security preparedness, Milk-Bone has teamed up with Harris Teeter to co-sponsor this program.

The two companies will present a $5,000 check to the Winston-Salem Police at the Harris Teeter store located at 1955 N. Peacehaven Rd. in Winston-Salem at 10:00 a.m. on April 30, 2003. The event will include a skills demonstration by the police K-9 unit. "Marco," a K-9 Officer that was donated by Harris Teeter and Milk-Bone in 2001, will be present and will participate in the skills demonstration.

In addition, the Winston-Salem Police and Harris Teeter will announce the winner of a Milk-Bone dog coloring contest that the second graders from Ward Elementary took part in. Second graders will be on hand as the winning "artist" receives a prize at this ceremony. Shoppers can also register to win a year's supply of Milk-Bone dog treats for their cuddly canine.

Dogs that serve in the K-9 unit are trained to perform specific duties such as combating narcotics by assisting in developing probable cause and locating hidden narcotics. Winston-Salem is a safer community today thanks to this donation by Milk-Bone and Harris Teeter.

Milk-Bone purchases made at area Harris Teeter locations and retailers nationwide help make this program possible. This event marks the 5th K-9 donated to local law enforcement from Milk-Bone and Harris Teeter over the past 5 years. Milk-Bone's nationwide police dog donation program helps law enforcement agencies add to or maintain canine units at no cost to tax-paying citizens.
