Harris Teeter Donates $10,070 to International Civil Rights Center and Museum Project
Triad area customers helped make fundraising campaign a success!

Charlotte, NC - Harris Teeter and our customers donated $10,070 to the International Civil Rights Center and Museum project.

During the month of February, Triad residents bought $1 contribution cards at our Greensboro, High Point, or Winston Salem stores to help their community preserve a moment in its past that was a catalyst for future change all across America.

Triad customers donated $2,535.00, Harris Teeter matched that amount and gave an additional $5,000.00 to bring the total to $10,070.

"We are proud to have been a part in helping to support a significant part of American History such as this. Our management team and associates in our stores were highly committed to making this fundraising campaign a success because they too believed in the great value that such a story and historical landmark would bring to our nation," said Kim McDaniel, Director of Diversity for Harris Teeter.

The donation will help support the building project that is underway to renovate the Woolworth's building in downtown Greensboro. Scheduled to open in February 2005, the civil rights museum is being built on the exact location where four African-American freshmen from North Carolina A&T University sat down and requested service at a segregated lunch counter on February 1st, 1960.

"On behalf of International Civil Rights Center and Museum, we are pleased with the funds that were provided by Harris Teeter. Their program allowed others to support the museum effort. Such a partnership continues the drive to open the museum. We appreciate everyone's support," said David Hoard, Vice Chancellor of Development & University Relations for North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.

Harris Teeter is a proud supporter of this significant historical landmark. The funds donated truly reflect the commitments that our communities have to this effort. We greatly appreciate Sit-In Movement Inc., and North Carolina A&T for letting us play our part in making this dream come true.
