Harris Teeter Rancher Beef Sparks Recipe Contest Stampede
Winners Can Take Home More Than $10,000 in Prizes

CHARLOTTE, NC – Already strapped with work, children and extra-curricular activities, most Americans don't want to be strapped to their stoves, slaving to prepare complicated meals for their families. That's why, from April 2 through May 6, Harris Teeter Rancher is lassoing beef recipes in its Recipe Roundup Contest: to help families cook meals, whether they have three hours or 30 minutes.

Participants in the Harris Teeter Rancher Recipe Roundup stand to win more than $10,000 in prizes, including a kitchen makeover for the grand prize winner. "Unlike most recipe contests, the Harris Teeter Rancher Recipe Roundup Contest is soliciting meal ideas centered around beef that are creative and conscious of time," said Harris Teeter Executive Chef Phil Anderson.

Contestants are encouraged to submit entries that are classified as either a weekday recipe, which requires less time to complete, or a weekend recipe, which requires more time. Customers are limited to one entry per person. "Today's family wants to spend less time in the kitchen and more time at the kitchen table catching up on the day's activities," said Chef Phil. "The weekends mean time for entertaining and impressing family and friends with that recipe you've been meaning to try."

Chef Phil, a certified executive chef who was named "Chef for the Year 2000" by the American Culinary Federation, will grade each of the recipes he receives and choose three finalists. The finalists will win a free trip to Charlotte, N.C., where they will compete in a cook-off event. The grand-prize winner in that event will receive a kitchen makeover valued at $8,000. The second-place finalist will win a new refrigerator or freezer, a $2,000 value, and the third-place winner will receive a cookware set valued at $500.

In addition to the chance of winning more than $10,000 in prizes, 50 contestants will have their recipe published in the Harris Teeter Rancher Recipe Roundup Cookbook. The winners will be announced online at www.harristeeterrancher.com.
