Harris Teeter Provides Some Major Shade in War on Iraq
Harris Teeter Umbrellas shade U.S. Marine Majors on break in Kuwait

Charlotte, NC – All the way in the middle of the Kuwaiti dessert, these soldiers brought with them a little piece of home. As our service men and women do their part in Operation Iraqi Freedom — Harris Teeter and the Red Cross are doing their part in Operation Phone Home.

To date Harris Teeter customers have donated nearly $115,000 towards buying phone cards to help keep our troops connected to their loved ones here at home. Every day we get closer to our goal of $200,000 which would give 10,000 soldiers a phone card and the chance to say "Happy Birthday," "Congratulations on a good report card," "Good job pitching a no hitter," or simply "I love you."

$1 and $20 American flags are available at every register in all 142 Harris Teeter stores. Operation Phone Home will run through April 30, 2003 in support of our troops.

Harris Teeter, Inc. with headquarters in Matthews, NC, is a subsidiary of Ruddick Corporation (NYSE:RDK).
