First Annual Harris Teeter Harvest Feast Set to Feed 15,000

Over 500 volunteers serve Thanksgiving dinner for area families in need

Charlotte, NC - A premiere event of its kind in this area, Harris Teeter's First Annual Harvest Feast gets underway today at the Charlotte Convention Center. Harris Teeter is looking to give families in need a traditional Thanksgiving meal. "Combating hunger in our community has been a top priority for Harris Teeter since we opened our doors," said President, Fred Morganthall. "We have over 300 Harris Teeter associates and their families who have volunteered their time, plus about 200 volunteers from the community who have rolled up their sleeves to help. It has been a company and a community effort," said Morganthall.

Convention Center Chef, Bill Cahill and his team of volunteers have been working since earlier in the week to prepare over 3700 pounds of turkey, 2400 pounds of ham, over 1800 pounds each of corn, green beans, and mashed potatoes and 1600 pecan and pumpkin pies.

"The Harris Teeter family wants to make sure that folks in need get the physical and spiritual nourishment that comes from sharing Thanksgiving dinner with friends and family," Cahill said. "I'm happy to be a part of something that gives back to the community in such a positive way," Cahill added.

Drill Instructor Tony Rosenbum from the hit TV series Boot Camp gave the crowd some motivational tips for staying in shape throughout the holidays and helped bring some good-humored fun to the day's events.
Harris Teeter would like to thank the Mecklenburg County agencies that helped us identify our neighbors in need and who continue to fight hunger in our community every day.
