CHARLOTTE, NC, April 10, 2002 --- Harris Teeter announced today that it has signed a lease for a new grocery store in Charlotte's center city. The store, located at the corner of 6th and Pine Streets, is already under construction and is expected to open in the summer of 2003. The developer of the site is Spectrum Properties.

There will be a press conference on-site (at the corner of 6th and Pine Streets) at 4 p.m. today. Mayor Pat McCrory, Jim Dulin of Spectrum Properties and Fred Morganthall of Harris Teeter will be present. In the case of rain, the press conference will be held at South Tryon Square in the 5th floor conference room.

The 18,000 square foot store will offer a full variety of grocery items, with strong offerings in fresh meat, produce, deli/bakery, seafood and wine. The store amenities will include made-to-order sandwiches, and a wine steward on staff. Outside seating will be available on 6th and Pine Streets, and free parking will be available in the property's parking deck.

"This new center city store will offer a full-service grocery shopping experience," says Harris Teeter President Fred Morganthall. "Harris Teeter understands the importance of Charlotte's center city to the entire region, and we're pleased to show our support of the downtown community."
