Harris Teeter Expands Online Shopping Service
Express Lane Now Offered in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC, Jan. 31, 2001 --- Harris Teeter has expanded its on-line home shopping service to customers in Wilmington. The service, called Express Lane, is available to the public at www.harristeeter.com. Customers can pick up their groceries at the Longleaf Mall store at 4310 Shipyard Boulevard.

With Express Lane service, customers can order their groceries on-line and a Personal Shopper will do their shopping for them. Customers designate the time when they would like to pick up their groceries, and a Personal Shopper will load the order into the customer's car. The fee for the service is $4.95. Orders can be placed anytime, day or night. Pickup hours are between noon and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Express Lane is also available at three Charlotte locations, one store each in Davidson and Winston-Salem, and two stores in the Raleigh area. Harris Teeter, Inc., with headquarters in Matthews, N.C., is a subsidiary of Ruddick Corporation (NYSE:RDK). Harris Teeter is ranked as one of the top 50 largest supermarkets in the United States with 2000 sales of $2.3 billion. The grocery store chain employs about 14,000 people and has 142 stores in North and South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee and Florida.
