Matthews Elementary Students To Receive Frozen Food Shopping Sprees
April 6, 2001; Charlotte, NC

Six students from Matthews Elementary School will receive Harris Teeter Frozen Food Shopping Sprees. The winning students will participate in a shopping spree at the Matthews Township Harris Teeter at 1811 Matthews Township Parkway in Matthews, NC. The event will take place on Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at 6:30 p.m. The participants will gather in the frozen food department. The children and their parents will participate in a non-timed shopping spree where they have the opportunity to walk away with as many of their favorite frozen food items they can fit into TWO large grocery bags.

The selected students were winners in a writing contest sponsored by Harris Teeter in honor of "March is National Frozen Food Month." The contest requested that students in grades K-2 list five frozen foods that together make a balanced healthy breakfast and the 3rd –5th grade students were asked to creatively write a paragraph describing what frozen foods they would serve their mascot "Stinger" for breakfast. The objective of this activity was to enhance the students' reading and comprehension skills.

This program brought a lot of excitement to the students at Matthews Elementary School. It was a great way to teach the students about frozen foods and how they can incorporate them into their busy lifestyles. What a fun way to celebrate March is National Frozen Food Month.
