Harris Teeter Expands U-Scan Service in Charlotte!
CHARLOTTE, NC - Feb. 14, 2001 --- The Harris Teeter grocery stores located at Kenilworth Commons and Providence Commons are boasting a new feature that allows customers to check out their own groceries. Called "U-Scan," the self-checkout unit allows customers with orders of any size to handle he entire checkout process. The service is available at nine other Charlotte area locations.

"People are starved for time today, so we wanted to offer them another alternative for checking out quickly," said Jessica Walter, Harris Teeter's communications manager.

With U-Scan, customers can scan and pay for their groceries at the unit using a credit card, cash or check. There is no involvement from a cashier unless identification is needed for alcohol or tobacco purchases.The units are being added to the Kenilworth Commons location, 1227 East Boulevard, and the Providence Commons store, 10616 Providence Road. Harris Teeter has 40 other U-Scans operating in stores throughout its marketing area.
